I have been following the gun control debate very closely for many years. In the interest of full disclosure,
- I am a gun owner and a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, who believes reasonable restrictions will not destroy the rights guaranteed by the 2nd amendment;
- I am not and never have been a member of the NRA or any other organization on either side of the gun control debate;
- Gun control was not a factor in my voting decisions in 2012; and,
- I am also a father of three and grandfather of two.
The most important thing we have in the U.S. is our children and the most important thing we do is prepare them for lives as adults who contribute to society in a positive way.
Of late I have been disgusted to see President Obama on one side and the NRA on the other side of the gun control issue brazenly exploit children and the emotions of the American people in this political struggle.
There was no need for President Obama to be surrounded by children when he signed his gun control proposal and there was truly no need for them to parrot things taught them by their parents and the White House in support of gun control.
It was despicable and beneath the dignity of the presidency.
That being said, the television advertisement by the NRA trying to make political capital out of the fact that the children of the President of the United States are under Secret Service control and have armed guards around them while at school was equally, if not more despicable.
The political theater has to stop.
Shame on both sides for exploiting children for political leverage!!
